Welcome to my daily learnings!(Aug 25)

where i note random little things i learn each day - updated monthly

The fermi paradox, the question of "Where is everybody?" despite the seemingly high likelihood of alien life. I personally think there has to be some creature out there on a different planet but it may not be advanced enough to have detected us or just quite litterally does not care

From what I’ve seen in the coverage of the Air India Flight 171 crash, I can’t shake how there were ignored complaints of the plane’s systems. Past complaints about the Boeing 787’s fuel control match too closely with what happened. They say the black box might hint at pilot error, but you really can't ignore the complaints and design issues.

octopuses have three hearts. Two of them just pump blood through the gills, which feels a little like being hired just to water the office plants but I guess it's pretty cool though.

I was wondering what the noise outside my window were and turns out they’re crickets that are louder after dark because that’s when they communicate the most. To simplify, the ‘peaceful night sound’ we all hear with summer is just a bunch of bugs yelling into the void to flirt.

Went to Harvard Square today and saw the John Harvard statue. I looked up why only his left shoe’s shiny because people rub it for luck—though apparently that’s not the most hygienic tradition (I’ll spare you the details lol). Also, I found that it’s nicknamed the “Statue of Three Lies” because it’s not even him, he didn’t found Harvard, and the date on the statue's wrong.
